Learning Issues
Does your child struggle in the areas of reading, writing, or mathematics? Does she or he often try to avoid school or homework, stating, "School is too hard", "School is boring", or "I hate school"? There are many factors that need to come together for children to have academic success, including having the necessary cognitive and academic skills to understand and complete school work, having good attention, organization, planning, and memory skills, and being motivated to persist even when a subject may not be a favorite one or when the material becomes more difficult. Sometimes, kids are bored with school because it is not challenging enough for them, while at other times they say they are bored to cover up the fact that school is hard for them. Children who struggle with learning are at risk for having low self-esteem and for developing anxiety and depression.
At the Anxiety Clinic of Central Alberta, we can help identify specific learning issues or learning disorders as well as help to formulate strategies specific to your child's needs.
