Anxiety Disorders
At the Anxiety Clinic of Central Alberta, we work with children and adolescents with many different anxiety issues and anxiety disorders, including the following:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Excessive worry and apprehensive about a number of events and activities
Panic Disorder
Unexpected, sudden, recurrent bouts of extreme panic with physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, pounding heart, feeling of dizziness, and sensation of shortness of breath
Selective Mutism
Consistent failure to speak in social situations where speaking is expected
Social Anxiety Disorder
Intense fear or anxiety regarding social situations and social interactions
Specific Phobia
Intense fear or anxiety about a specific object or situation, e.g., animals, having an injection
We will first assess and diagnosis, if necessary, any underlying anxiety disorder. Then we will together with you and your child to develop strategies to deal with the anxiety and the ineffective or erroneous thinking patterns that often accompany these disorders.
